The Opportunity 

Dechra is an international specialist veterinary pharmaceuticals products business. Our expertise is in the development, manufacture, and sales and marketing of high-quality products exclusively for veterinarians worldwide.

The primary function of the Scientist, Clinical Supply is to manage all aspects of study drug planning including shipments, labelling/packaging, inventory management, forecasting study drug need, and reconciliation, and to provide study support for clinical and non-clinical studies conducted by Dechra Product Development. The Scientist, Clinical Supply will work closely with the study teams to ensure that all aspects of clinical supply (logistics and distribution of study drug and other materials) are planned and executed to the timelines in the project plan in full compliance to regulatory and logistical requirements. The Scientist, Clinical Supply will manage relationships with clinical supply CROs and oversee the work they perform. Additional responsibilities may be added based on business need.

So, what will you be doing? This role has a broad and varied scope and the successful candidate will have responsibility for duties including:

  • Advise Product Development personnel on importation/exportation requirements for study drug/materials
  • Draft necessary documents required for importing/exporting study drug and supplies for clinical and non-clinical studies, coordinate review and finalization of documents
  • Partner with study leads to develop and maintain protocol‑driven supply forecasts for studies to anticipate demand, reduce waste, and prevent shortages
  • Work with Regulatory Affairs to ensure regulatory notifications for study drug shipments are submitted in a timely manner.  This includes imports, exports, and domestic shipments
  • Collaborate with study teams on supply-related insights during protocol development, study startup and be able to identify potential risks or supply gaps prior to study initiation
  • Work with study teams to create a clinical supply plan and oversee labelling of study materials by CRO in accordance with the clinical supply plan
  • Manage clinical supply inventory across internal and external sites over the product lifecycle inducing procurement, storage, distribution, product usage, batch expiry, storage conditions, etc.
  • Serve as main point of contact between Dechra personnel and relevant CROs, couriers, manufacturers, etc. 
  • Maintain relationships with suppliers, CROs, and couriers and ensure that necessary contracts are kept up to date
  • Contribute to SOP development and ensure adherence to GxP and internal quality standards.

Ideal Candidate

  • College degree in Animal Health or related scientific field preferred
  • Experience in animal health industry and or research.
  • Experience importation/exportation of Investigational veterinary product and related regulatory requirements (FDA/USDA).
  • Basic understanding of relevant GxP regulatory requirements (GCP, GMP, and GLP).
  • Demonstrate collaboration and communication skills in a team environment, share knowledge, influence best practices, and coordinate workflow.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills with ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize based on guidance from management.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with strong written/verbal skills.
  • Critical thinking to assess areas for improvement and initiative to bring forward these ideas driving efficiency in business operations
  • Computer literate with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, and Outlook)
  • Signifcant experience in clinical supply and logistics, or related field, preferably in the animal health industry
