The Opportunity
The Director, Marketing Category, Equine, reports to the Vice President of Marketing and Strategic Operations, and focuses on the Equine business in the US market. Candidate is responsible for developing and executing a holistic portfolio strategy that maximizes the value of the category and promotes sustainable growth through focused strategic marketing excellence, to maximize commercial impact and value.
The primary function of the position is to lead all strategic marketing efforts and planning, as well as P&L responsibility for Category. Develop market for pipeline products, launches, defense and overall Category growth to meet financial objective
So, what will you be doing? This role has a broad and varied scope and the successful candidate will have responsibility for duties including:
Leading the Business
- Develop and deliver the 1 and 3-year strategy and financial operating plan for the assigned category in partnership with medical affairs counterpart
- Lead a high-performing team to success
- Define end-to-end category and brand strategies (incl. competitive positioning, VHT, retail, distribution, corporate accounts, pet owner, etc.) in partnership with medical affairs counterpart
- Lead ongoing financial planning and product forecasting for the respective category
- Maximize brand performance: P&L management, brand forecasting, pricing & GtN by TA/Brand
- Prepare and present performance reviews and business updates to Senior Management on a regular basis
- Develop a deep understanding of market trends, competitive landscape, and key drivers of brand performance
- Determine resource allocation across all customer and promotional channels
- Ensure alignment across marketing, sales, channel partners and medical affairs (create teams and forums for engagement, strategy discussions, competitive intel sharing)
- Set strategic priorities for the category by aggregating insights from market research, global teams, technical experts
- Plan, coordinate and lead go-to-market planning and execution for new product launches, ensuring seamless cross-functional coordination, aligning to ensure delivery of strategic objectives
- Build new markets, disease states and strong brands
- Develop compelling value propositions, messaging, and commercial strategies to maximize adoption and market penetration in market
- Track and analyze launch performance, making data-driven recommendations for continuous improvement
Shared responsibilities include:
- Collaborate with Corporate, Retail, and Distribution on forecast by channel, which feeds into the overall brand forecast
- Build and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment of end-to-end strategy
- Collaborate with GTME on global Category strategy and execution at US market level
- Partner with GTME on commercial lifecycle planning efforts
- Engage with DMS/Supply to optimize forecasting and supply plans
- Provide input and support on Business Development evaluations
Leading People
- Assess and coach individual and team performance to exceed business goals.
- Coach and direct Product Manager(s) in developing comprehensive marketing objectives, strategies and plans and in identifying and including key stakeholders throughout the process.
- Actively coach direct reports to optimize their performance and develop their capabilities for advancement and future opportunities.
- Foster an environment where coaching and feedback are open, ongoing, and consistent.
- Leverage talent and resources across the marketing team and across the business

- BS /BA and relevant experience required. MBA preferred
- Minimum of 10 years of related experience and a proven record demonstrating successful branding, strategy development, and communications management.
- Strong financial analysis skills and proven ability to manage budgets and expenses.
- Experience working with cross-functional teams in developing and executing brand strategies, forecasting, programs, and tactics to achieve and surpass market share and revenue targets.
- Excellent computer skills, proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, SharePoint, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel), and the ability to learn Dechra systems.
- Ability to travel as required – often up to 40% for industry conferences, professional meetings, and collaboration with key internal/external stakeholders.
